The Educational Significance of Philately

The Ministry of Education celebrates, that for the first time in Nicaragua Philately is taught as a science, which should be cultivated, not by just a few, but presented in school classrooms with systematic guidance, and not as the obsession of certain dilatants.

It is logical that this should result as another concern, for our Popular Sandinista Revolution, because Nicaragua is more widely recognized in the wide geographical scope, more so now because of cultural-political reasons, likewise, now there are more countries, that from afar affiliate themselves with Nicaragua.

Likewise, it is for the first time, that our cultural identity emerges in all its splendor, without the limitations which were previously imposed by the it’s overseer, themes which were previously prohibited, now serve as the inspiration for new issues of postal stamps.

That is how they will appear, not only with the traditional heroes, but together with the immortal figure of Augusto César Sandino, the miner will emerge free, or the most modest flower of our forests liberated.

Since my youth, I have believed, that philately is one of the greatest educational resources, whose potential has incalculable boundaries. Firstly, by the task itself, to seek, with tenacity, the newest postal stamp, which tells me of faraway countries, of great human values or of extraordinary flora or fauna. Secondly, for the human relationships which this hobby generates, that truly brings together thousands of people from all around the world, and thirdly for the discipline or sense of order which is created in us, by this persistent labor.

The Ministry of Education hopes that this Philatelic album serves to better guide our youth, who diligently seek to construct a new world by means of study, investigation and by collecting. Quickly growing it, by adding postal stamps, as one whom position bricks to build one’s own dwelling.
